News Hits: 105

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has announced that government will construct ultramodern markets nationwide under the 24-Hour Economy Programme to enhance hygiene and improve livelihoods.

Speaking during the maiden National Sanitation Day cleanup exercise in Accra, the Minister said markets are critical to public health and community welfare, hence the need to ensure they remain clean, safe, and sanitary.

> “Where we eat is the market,” he said. “It is therefore important that our markets remain clean and safe. These new markets will promote hygienic conditions for the good of our people — not only in the Ga State but across all communities in Ghana.”

He noted that the 24-Hour Economy Programme provides the framework for continuous productivity, including efficient sanitation management, modern waste systems, and the creation of sustainable jobs.

The Minister reiterated that maintaining cleanliness in markets is not only a civic responsibility but also an economic imperative that supports health, trade, and national development.
