Government Will Distribute 200,000 Free Seedlings 2019

MLGRD 11/01/19 The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama (MP), has urged residents of the Afram Plains to get involved in the planting of Cashew trees, as this will act as security in their old age.

She made these remarks at the commissioning of market stalls at Bruben, Kwahu North District. Hajia Alima Mahama noted at the commissioning that government placed a lot of importance to Bruben. This she said is indicative of the fact that within a span of two years, she and her three deputies had paid working visits to Bruben.

She said government has placed premium on agriculture as the majority of Ghanaians are engaged in farming, which she put at 80%. As such government has increased the distribution of cashew seedlings from 100,000 to 200,000 under the programme Planting for Food and Export” in 2019. She noted that her Deputy Minister, Augustine Collins Ntim (MP) had been placed in charge of that programme nationwide.  She said the situation where Burkina Faso was exporting food to Ghana had become a thing of the past.

Deputy Minister, in charge of Rural Development, Augustine Collins Ntim (MP), in his address urged residents of Bruben to take advantage of government educational policies. He urged residents of Bruben to take their children to school.

The Chief of Bruben, Togbe Begyina, called on government to consider building the old market and also requested the extension of electricity to Bator and Dwarf Island.

The next point of call was Kayera where the Minister inspected an uncompleted Kindergarten classroom block.  The Minister also instructed that a classroom block be built for JSS students. Presently, the JSS students have their classes under a shed.
